Maratha State & Maratha Confederacy

In 1674, Shivaji founded the Maratha kingdom at Raigad. Under his administration, which was governed by the Ashtapradhan Parishad, the Peshwa was the prime minister and Ramdas was the spiritual guide. The Marathas came to power by defeating the Mughals through guerrilla warfare. Later, under Lord Hastings, the Peshwa was removed and Maratha power declined under British rule.
