The Advent of the Europeans
The arrival of Europeans in India is an important chapter in Indian history, following Vasco da Gama's discovery of the Calicut sea route in 1498. After Goa and Hooghly, the Portuguese, Dutch, English, and French gradually established trade in India at Masulipatnam and Surat, which later led to the British gaining dominance in India.
